Rotman MBAs Win International Design Challenge and Place Second in Mining Competition.

Toronto – Teams from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management took the top two positions in the annual Rotman Design Challenge.  The student teams, drawn from 13 leading universities and colleges in Canada, the United States and Europe, tackled a problem posted by CIBC, the challenge sponsor and a leading Canadian-based global financial institution, on how can CIBC become a leader in financial planning for their clients by scaling beyond traditional channels, over the next 10 years. The challenge, one the of the largest student-run international design case competitions, was held at the Rotman School on March 3 and 4,

Team NewLyte, composed of students from the Rotman School Morning & Evening MBA program finished first while Team ide-YAY-tion from the Rotman Full time MBA placed second.  A team from the MBA program from the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business placed third.

Team NewLyte members included: Parth Patel, Morning MBA’20; Andrea Lo, Evening MBA’20; Michael Bosompra, Evening MBA’20; Hande Akseki, Evening MBA’20; and, Anela Dujsic, Morning MBA’20.

Team ide-YAY-tion member included: Cadence Peckham, MBA’19; Bianca Brooks, MBA’19; Tarek Mavani, MBA’19; Bridget Lipman, MBA’19; and, Genevieve Plante, MBA’19.

In other competition news, a team of Rotman Full Time MBA students placed second in an international case competition which had a focus on mining, finance, and sustainability held at York University’s School of Business on March 3.

Students Alex Rodriguez, MBA’19; Thomas Choi, MBA’19; and, Neil Desai, MBA’19, placed second to a team from the Colorado School of Mines in the Schulich International Case Competition, which attracted teams from Canada, the United States, Australia and Europe. The team was supported by the Rotman Energy and Natural Resources Group, a MBA student organization.
