Meet Josh Wong, MBA '11 and Tiffany Jing, MBA '12

Most people don’t think of romance when they think of business school, but there are some lucky alumni who left Rotman with more than an MBA – they also gained a life partner. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we caught up with alumni Josh Wong, MBA '11 and Tiffany Jing, MBA '12.

How did you meet your partner?

Technically, the first time we met was in the Rotman atrium. Josh had his face buried in an order of Singapore fried noodles from the food truck outside of Robarts. It was a brief introduction and it took another year and a half before Tiff and Josh spoke again.

What was your first impression? Was it love at first sight?

We got a second chance to make a first impression once we had started our FT jobs. We met for drinks at Ki when a mutual friend of ours (a fellow Rotman ’12) set us up and chaperoned our first date. It started low-key (we both worked in IBD at different banks and Bay street is a small place) but by Chinese New Year in February, we had met each other’s parents.

What is your favourite memory of your time together at Rotman?

One experience at Rotman we like to laugh about is one where we almost met. Tiff was invited by her friends to join a finance tutorial leading up to the exam. Tiff was fairly confident in her ability to score a healthy grade. She also didn’t want to bother with this arrogant second year she had heard about. Her instincts on both were good: She got that healthy grade, and Josh was the arrogant second year.

What are you up to now?

We are currently in New York working in finance. We were married in the summer of 2016 and Tiff gave Josh an early Valentine’s day present this year: a healthy baby boy.

How has your partner supported your career journey?

Josh: Tiff gets me more than anyone I know. Having done this type of work, she is understanding, compassionate and thoughtful. I trust her advice and she helps give me perspective. I would not be where I am today without her.

Tiffany: Josh challenges and supports me to take career risks that I would otherwise avoid. These decisions have resulted in significant professional as well as personal growth over the years.
